The Domincan Republic was discovered by Columbus in 1492 on his first voyage to the New World. Considered to be the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic encumbers 48,700 km² (18,800 miles²) roughly the size of Switzerland.
A presidential republic since the early 60s, the Dominican Republic has been a role model of Democracy in the Caribbean. The island is the most mountainous of the West Indies and also vaunts the highest peak in the Caribbean archipelago – Pico Durante, standing to 3175 m (10,417 ft). An appealing characteristic of the island is its pleasant year-round gentle climate with little variation in temperature between summer and winter. The island boasts an astounding variety of exotic flowers, trees and fruit.
Cabrera is considered to be one of the most beautiful regions of the Dominican Republic. Facing the Atlantic the Cabrera region offers stunning beaches, rivers, exotic vegetation and incredible natural attractions. There is a National Park reserve called Cabo Frances Viejo located in El Breton.
