Los Haitises National Park is located on the North-East coast of the Dominican Republic and presents an alluring protected virgin forest. Since 2000 the park has been a popular destination for ecotourism. Haitis means highland or mountain range in the local Taino language, even though the elevation of the park’s hills only range from 30-40 meters. There are numerous caverns created by water erosion which are adorned with paintings by Native Americans.

Santo Domingo is the country’s capital and little more than an hour away on the new highway. It is packed with many monuments and landmarks as it is the oldest continuously inhabited European settlement in the Americas. It is a vibrant commercial and tourist centre with lots of museums, shopping malls, plazas, parks, recreational areas, theatres and sports complexes.
